Swiss textile company HeiQ has developed a solution to track and trace the manufacturing of garments in the outdoor industry. By using a smartphone application, consumers can learn if their garment is safe and sustainably made.
Called IDENTITY, the technology uses a unique serial number of the garment. Consumers can scan the code using their smartphone to track each component of the garment, its origin, its consumer labels certifications, even the manufacturing person and date online.
As HeiQ explains, IDENTITY makes the entire manufacturing process far more transparent and, for the first time, allows a brand to guarantee to its consumers full product accountability and authenticity from fibre to point of sales. The technology was developed to address a clear need from textile consumers to be more informed about the origin and sustainability of products they wish to purchase and is predicted to change consumer behaviour.
