Samsung Electronics to go 100% renewable

Samsung Electronics will source 100% renewable energy for its energy used in the U.S., Europe and China within the next two years.

South Korean electronics giant announced last week that it will expand the use of renewable energy in its operations. To this end, it will source renewable energy for 100 per cent of the energy used for all its factories, office buildings and operational facilities in the U.S. Europe and China by 2020.

Beginning this year, Samsung will also install approximately 42,00 square metres of solar panels at its headquarters in Suwon. The company will continue to add approximately 21,000 square metres of solar arrays and geothermal power generation facilities beginning in 2019 in its Pyeongtaek campus and 2020 in its Hwaseong campus.

“Samsung Electronics is fulfilling its duty as a corporate citizen by expanding and supporting the use of renewable energy,” said Won Kyong Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Public Affairs at Samsung. “As demonstrated by our expanded commitment, we are focused on protecting our planet and are doing our part as a global environmental steward.”

Beginning next year, Samsung Electronics will also engage its partners across the supply chain and plans to work with its top 100 partner companies to help them set their own renewable energy targets, in partnership with the Carbon Disclosure Project Supply Chain Program.
